US Standard 10-Kilo Carry-On Luggage, a Challenge for Women

Women are known for being "minimalist", especially involving anything that makes them pretty and fab like clothes and beauty kits (read: sarcasm as I write my essay).

Do you wonder their dilemma when asked to pack a 10-kilo carry-on luggage for a 2-week to a month out of town or out of the country trips? It is actually somehow impossible but very challenging. To help on this challenging travel dilemma, below are some tips on how you can maximize the standard weight capacity of your backpack with travel essentials not exceeding 10kg.

Bring only a week-worth of clothes

It is indeed a challenge to carry only a very limited weight of luggage that should include everything you need, much more if the trip would take 2-week or 1-month. Women would always prefer to wear fresh clothes everyday of course. She also worry of leaving something she need behind because of the limitation set at various airport terminals. Yes, paying for additional baggage is an option but what if there are other ways like having some basic outfits that you can easily mix and match and a detergent powder you can use for washing clothes. Applicable and simple right? Let your outfit be more lively and colorful by adding some accessories in it, a bright colored scarf that would do.

Think towel as just an option

If you will be living in a hotel, then bringing towel is no longer needed. For other type of accommodation, a microfiber towel or even a simple lightweight sarong would do.

Limit your toiletries

Bring with you only the basics like shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste, and lotion. Make sure to transfer the content of those bulky container beauty must have in a smaller storage to have only what you can use. I personally reuse those small lotion bottles from hotels. Keep these toiletries in a ziplock bags to avoid issues like spilling of liquid materials into clothes.

Limit your electronic gadgets

A gadget is one of the major contributor of weight in a traveler's luggage. Make it a point to bring what you think you need or can really use in a span of your stay like mobile phones and laptop.

Why College Students Lose Their Appetite During their First Year

Losing appetite is one of those things that are not usually talked but is commonly experienced by college students especially those who are in their first year.

I experienced this phenomenon, for lack of a better word, two weeks into my freshman year.  All I ate back then was pesto and iced tea, which was part of the menu of a small cafe two blocks away from school. I didn’t notice that it was becoming a regular habit until one rainy evening, when I was stuck in the arts and sciences building and the food available was a hotdog and coke. Most of the students ate those because of starvation.  For some reason, I didn’t ate even if the last time I munched on something was six hours ago.

It took me a month to realize that I was homesick and yearning for home-cooked food were the reasons that I lost my appetite.  After that rainy evening, outrageous thoughts popped inside my head to the point where I thought I was pregnant – I wasn’t, had my period three days after that stormy night.

If you are or had similar experiences, the following maybe the reason why you lost your appetite on your freshman year.
1.        You’re in a period of adjustment – your body and mind are united to the fact that you are in a new environment. Breaking away from norms can have odd effects to a person.
2.       You’re homesick – this is a normal phase for students.  You miss home, your bed, your family, your neighbourhood, everything that you grew up with.
3.       You’re eating schedule is changing abruptly – at home, you have a regular eating schedule, once you enter college, the time you eat depends on your class schedule.
